Name: The Bakers Arms
Location:
Swindon
Cut off from its small car park by the windy road from Chiseldon to Liddington, The Bakers Arms is probably as close as it is possible to get to the archetypal little, down-to-earth, country 'local'.
A chimney breast divides the lounge from the public bar and adds much to the cosy atmosphere in what a CAMRA pub guide described as "a bright, sparkling little pub".
It is also just off the beaten track. Whether that 'track' is the A346 Swindon-Marlborough road, which is only a stone's throw read more -

Name: Longs
Location:
Swindon
The smart office workers who make for Longs at lunchtimes and the young people who flock there in the evenings may just occasionally wonder how it got to be the strange shape that it is. The premises actually have a curious history.
From Victoria Road it appears to be a rather too narrow, slightly too tall building, but it stretches back along the length of Union Row to re-emerge as what appears to be an end-of-terrace house in Belle Vue Road.
In fact, the original Belle Vue pub - it was r read more -

Name: The Bakers Arms
Location:
Swindon
'The Bakers' celebrated a century of ownership by Arkell's in 1996, but it was built back in 1847 by William Slade of Moredon. He also owned The Red Lion (now renamed The Boundary House) even though by trade he was a butcher!
The butcher sold it to a baker and in 1866 the proprietor was William Perrin. He - like many Victoria bakers - offered a valuable service to the local community who would take along their own bread to bake in his oven.
Unfortunately, Mr Perrin also sold them beer to read more -
Name: The Black Horse
Location:
Swindon
The Black Horse makes a marvellous country pub - and it must have been a wonderful farmhouse.
Perched on the steep hill that climbs up from Wanborough, it once used to be part of Callas Hill Farm. It was then the property of John Deacon and he allowed John Bray to open it as a beerhouse called Callis House in 1862. Arkell's bought the property in 1891 at a cost of £620.

Name: The Boundary House
Location:
Swindon
The Boundary House has had the best of both worlds. Built in 1877, it is - on the outside at least - one of those old-fashioned, solid, three-storey pubs, complete with smart upper storey gables and even tall, impressive chimneys.
If that wasn't grand enough, it was treated to a thorough refurbishment in 1990 which included the addition of a conservatory extension and an ironic change of name.
It once marked the boundary with the hamlet of Moredon, which had long since been absorbed as a read more
