Landlords GARRY AND MICK MEDCALF Lower Street West Chinnock Crewkerne TA18 7PT Somerset UK Brewery Free House 01935881235 : P Phone for reservations Click to zoom Email this pub This is a lovely village pub with all the charm of Somerset.A warm and friendly welcome awaits, quench your thirst with one of our fabulous real ales from the West Country. During the winter season we don't open Monday lunchtimes unless it falls into holiday times. This is normally from the end of SETEMBER TO EASTER G.M.T The pub was first licenced in the early 1890s as a cider house as their village pub was at the bottom of the road called the HALF MOON.This closed in the late 1950s. It was fully licenced in the about 1908 and has been trading ever since. It tock on a new name in the 1950 which was the SALAMANDER after a race horse that died outside the pub after winning the point to point race held in the village back then. The name then changed to the MUDDLED MAN in 1978. Over the last 20 years the pub has changed hand every 18 month-2years but we have now been here 8 years. We took the pub in March 1999 and have over the last few years added the function room and disabled toilets and we are still working on the main building and hope to finnish all the little job in the next fex years. Parking is on the road as the pub building was built in 1650 as weavers cotages. The road is normally quiet so this is not too mutch of aproblem. The village school is only a few yards up the road so when the parents colect ther children for a short time this area get a little busy.I you come at night there are no street lights so a tourch may be needed. Once in side the front door turn left to the bar minding the short slope behind the bar door,or turn left into the skittle ally-function room. In the fornt hall you will fint the disabled toilet and the ladies toilet. The mens toilet is throught the bar. When entering the bar the enterance to the kitchen is to your right and the bar area is to your left. This area can become quite crowded when ther is a skittle match being played. We use the local breweries that the pub around us can not use as now most of the are tenancy owned. Pleases remember if your are not satisfied with your drinks or food let us know if we don't know the how can we put it right. The tables run down the two sides of the main bar area towards the old fireplace. On the other side of the bar is the pool table also the fruit machine and the mens toilets. The food served is simple pub bar food from sandwichs (not in chapatta bread) to steak with peas mushrooms tomato onion-rings chips or jacket potato &garnish there are no hidden cost with our pricing. If you would like a light bite how about a filled jaket potato the dependent on the filling. Like the beer we use a local butcher for our meat, and a local farm for all of our fresh vegetalbles, and a local fruit farm for furit when in season. Our fresh fish on a Friday comes from West bay.We try and buy local where we can to give you the best of what Somerset can offer. |
