Email this pub Just outside the front door of this historic inn runs the 87-mile Kennet and Avon Canal which, having been derelict for about 40 years, is now one of the south's most popular waterways - ideal for walking, fishing and studying wildlife.
The pub is on one of the loveliest stretches of the canal so take a stroll along the towpath before heading for the pub, named after the first chairman of the canal company. Both a well-established village local and a country pub/restaurant of distinction, the Dundas Arms offers an interesting selection of blackboard specials and an extensive wine list.
Dishes on offer might include duck confit on home-made bake beans, honey roast ham hock with grain mustard sauce, spinach and red pepper lasagne, Thai fish cakes with chilli sauce, Andalucian spicy stew with baked eggs, grilled rib-eye steak with mushrooms and chips, or Cumberland sausages with mash and onion gravy.
While on your visit you could go and see the Highclere Castle, home of The Earls of Carnarvon where tours include the Egyptian Centre in which one can see many artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun, there is also Newbury Race Course, where there are up to 28 meetings per year, including The Hennessy Gold Cup .
There are five bedrooms if you fancy prolonging your visit.
These peaceful rooms, all with telephones and en-suite bathrooms, have patio doors leading to a terrace which overlooks the River Kennet and the trees beyond.
A full breakfast, which is included in the price of the room, is served in the morning.
Located at the crossroads of Southern England, The Dundas Arms at Kintbury is only a short hop by road or rail (Kintbury railway station is just the other side of the canal) from many national and local places of interest and entertainment.
