Over the years it has had many uses, but primarily it was used as a cider house which dispensed cider to locals and travelers through its tiny windows, which are now inside windows!The Butchers Arms is a reputable restaurant venue in the Forest of Dean and dinner reservations are essential, especially at the weekends. The village of Clearwell itself is a sleepy tranquil village situated approximately 2 miles from Coleford market town. Clearwell Castle is host to many society weddings and is located just a 2 minute walk from the Butchers Arms. Within the local area are many tourist attrcations such as Puzzlewood, Perrygrove Railway, Clearwell Caves, Fly Fishing, Horseriding, Forest Walks, Camping, Symonds Yat and the Wye Valley plus many more.
