Landlords Martin and Cate Allway 24 Knowle Village Budleigh Salterton EX9 6AL Devon UK Click to zoom Email this pub The Dog and Donkey pub is located in the village of Knowle just outside Budleigh Salterton in East Devon. The locals, have for years referred to the pub as the "Dog and Donkey" and in recent years its name was changed, although the old "Britannia Inn" sign still hangs proudly outside. Originally an Old English Drinkers Pub"the "Dog" has been sympathetically altered over the years to give a restaurant to the rear, with large patio doors opening on to a small beer garden, with grass paddocks and horses behind. The front bar has remained much as it was, with a welcoming open fire and mixed seating for those having a "bar snack" or a pint of beer. As you enter, to the right, is a smaller room with Plasma TV for the sports fans interested in the football or rugby, but set so as not to disturb the ambiance of the main bar. The new landlord and landlady, have added flair and quality to a formerly lacklustre pub, bringing back the sparkle once again to this "little gem". For food lovers, Former Royal Marine Chef, Richard Steer has a selection of mouthwatering dishes on offer. From his popular Sunday Carvery, to Steak and Ale Pie, from the lunch menu, on to Barbary Duck or a Steak from the evening restaurant menu. All complemented by landlady Bea Steers excellent choice of wine and a fine selection of "Real Ales" and keg beers. You can be assured of a warm welcome and comfortable surroundings at the "Dog and Donkey" |
