Email this pub The Bridge Inn is an attractive and historic 17th century Exmoor inn on the banks of the West Lyn River just half a mile from the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth.
Ideal for Mid-Week Breaks and walking holidays as it is adjacent to three major footpaths; The Two Moors Way, Tarka Trail and The South West Coastal Footpath - Exmoor and the North Devon coast.
The accommodation comprises 8 en suite rooms all comfortably furnished and with river or woodland views.
The Riverside Restaurant overlooks directly the West Lyn. Delicious breakfasts and home-cooked lunches and evening meals are served here.

Food
We pride ourselves on the quality of our home cooked cuisine. Local food and produce is used and all the meals are cooked in the Aga according to traditional recipes. We do not like to use pre-prepared meals for our guests because most of them appreciate eating 'real food' and a good hearty portion. We have established an excellent reputation for food and certainly on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes it is advisable to book.

Breakfasts: These are served in the Riverside Restaurant from 8.30am to 9.30am. There is a large selection of cereals, fruit and juices and you can have a light 'continental' breakfast or a more traditional English Breakfast.

Lunches: There is a large Bar Menu including baguettes, sandwiches and hot bites all at affordable prices.

Dinners: There is a large Bar and Restaurant Menu, including local whole trout, bangers and mash, steak and ale pie and lots more at affordable prices. We also have a special children's menu and a choice of vegetarian dishes.

Sunday Lunches: There are usually two roasts and vegetarian dish served with 'roasties' or you can choose from a light lunchtime menu.
Drink
We have a selection of local real ales, and red and white wines from all regions, including South Africa and Chile wines.

The main part of the bar and hotel date from the late 17th Century and was constructed as a house for the mill owner of the mill 250 yards further down the valley. The cellars date from the 12th century and were once salmon fishermen's cottages.

A Major Anderson doubled the size of the building in 1935-36 by building out on stilts towards the river, which is now the Riverside Restaurant.

A very well known local family called Crick lived here for many years and it is a commonly held belief that the kindly ghost of Mrs Crick can still be seen in certain rooms. Relatives of the Crick family still visit and enthral us with their stories. We have a copy of the Visitors Book from the early 1900s and a collection of historical photographs and post cards on display. One of the entries indicates tha Charles Dickens stayed here whilst visiting the publisher Sir George Newnes.

Anecdotal evidence also has it that the unusual Gothic windows were salvaged from the hunting lodge of King Charles I at nearby Coombe Park which was
destroyed by flood in the 1680s. Recent owners of Coombe Park would often come into the bar and demand their windows back !

More recently the Olde Cottage Inne, as it was, escaped serious damage in the disastrous flood of 1952.
