Email this pub The Logan Rock Inn is situated in the hamlet of Treen in St. Levan close to the beaches of Porthcurno and Pednvounder and near to the coastal footpath. The pub takes its name from the famous Logan Rock , which is perched overlooking Porthcurno bay.
According to Cornish Folklore, Tin streamers of long ago brought their produce to this village to trade with Phoenician merchants who came to Penberth in their boats. Secrecy was observed, they were not allowed beyond the beach in case the source of the tin was discovered. Today Treen is better known as the village from which the footpath to the Logan Rock runs.
Logan Rock is the most famous of Cornwall's Logan or Logging (rocking) stones, this being a block of granite weighing over 60 tons. perched on another and as a result of weathering, the slightest touch will set it rocking.
It was in 1824 that a Naval Lieutenant levered it out of its position and through the local inhabitants raising such a fuss was forced by the Admiralty to replace it to its original position at a cost to himself of £130.
After erecting a set of sheer- legs and by using various blocks and tackle, he managed to place it near enough, though its rocking has since been diminished
A copy of this quaint old bill as well as drawings of the procedure of replacing the rock can be seen in the pub.
The Logan Rock Inn is open all year for meals and drink. In the winter months the main bar has a wonderful open coal fire; much needed after an exhillerating walk on the cliffs.
During the summer months the beer gardens at the rear of the pub are open and contain plenty of tables at which to eat and drink. There are also tables at the front. Food is available throughout the day during the summer holiday months and The Logan Rock Inn specialises in Pre- Minack theatre meals for both Matinee and evening performances. You can even call in for a drink after a Minack show!
The "Snug" has been visited by many a famous person and the walls are adorned by photographs ( many autographed) of sporting personalities.
The Logan Rock Inn has been used as a location set for a number of films and TV films including "The Shell Seekers" and "Coming Home" to name two as well as hosting local T.V's "Bendall at Bedtime".
But to really get the feel for this "unspoilt" pub and the hospitality it offers you have to visit. A word of advice - bookings for meals are advisable since this pub is very popular and does get busy. Cheers!
